Mae Beata
Today, a very kind lady allowed us to use her magnificent, nay palatial home to film and record in. She’s the wife of a famous Italian conductor who died and left her this enormous place which she runs as a stately home for Weddings and events. It has gorgeous, polished, dark wood floors throughout, ancient looking sculptures and bookcases, and a grand piano by a huge bay window.
The morning was spent with a sublime Jazz trumpeter who will sound amazing in the mix, and then I interviewed two more subjects in the library.
The first was an old-ish lady, Mae Beata who is the Spiritual leader of another Religious group here, the Candomble, but a different line and Saintly protector. She and our next visitor, a Shamanic and indigenous Indian expert in a short-sleeved shirt and feathered head-dress, spoke in Portuguese and I’ll find out what they said tomorrow which I’m never comfortable with, but the answers, especially the former lady’s, were so long that to translate them on the spot would have removed any possible flow from the interviews. Her answer to the question about ‘the creation’ was no less than twenty-five minutes.
A phone kept ringing somewhere. I hope it wasn’t picked up by the clip-mike.
