Renaissance effect
Before we headed off to the apartment Carol had found for us all to play in, a French guy who had written to me wanting to meet us and maybe license some of our Spacious Music (our mellow online label) albums here. It felt very grown up having a label distribution meeting in Paris before recording Clarinets and guitars on the Rue Victor Masse.
The flat was so Parisian it wasn’t true. High ceilings, obscure art on the walls, the priceless Steinway, and all looking even cooler for the cables, cameras and headphones which were now drenching the furniture. I love bass clarinet. I love Dave Randall’s electric guitar playing. I love the track which Duncan has composed which sounds a bit Keith Jarretty, and I love only having to play a very simple guitar riff repetitively to be part of the gorgeous shot Ben set up using the steady-cam. We even left a few apples strewn artilly about the Chinese carpet for full Renaissance effect, it was heaven.
We need to rest though. If we’re flying all night tomorrow to Rio, and into a momentously hectic recording and filming schedule, I’m going to insist that no one does anything tomorrow. Maybe some light postcard writing. That’s it.
